Isn’t it so annoying when you splurge on a hyped beauty product from Instagram or YouTube that isn’t worth the hype? The minute you use it, you’re disappointed?
In my opinion it’s the worst, luckily for you, I have found 5 products that you can save your money with.
Please understand however, that these products didn’t work for me, I’m not saying that they won’t for you. So, keeping that in mind, let’s start!
The 5 makeup products that are not worth the hype.
Estée Lauder Double Wear Foundation
I was really annoyed that this one didn’t work, especially since I hadn’t read any bad reviews about it. The woman tested it in the shop on me and I loved it, though when I applied it at home, in the same way, it was not the same. I have oily, acne-prone skin and this foundation made my skin look cakey and dry which made my spots look more pronounced. I really did have high hopes for this foundation since I love the light version and the concealer but sadly, this foundation was not as good. A plus size however is that is does stay on all day so if you think this may work for you, it is long-lasting.
Update; since shaving my face which you can read about here, this foundation has performed a lot better and I’ve been really loving it when wearing on a night out. It is very heavy so I definitely don’t wear it often but I’m not as against it now. The biggest problem I have now with it is the smell, it have a heavy scent of chemicals. Other than that, it blends seamlessly.
Benefit Gimme Brow
Benefit are known for their brow products and are hyped up regularly. This one, however, for me, was simply not worth the money. I feel like it is a regular brow gel and it dries out pretty quickly. I don’t see how it’s worth the hype. This may be because my brows are already thick but I feel like it only added a little colour and didn’t really change their appearance at all. I think it’ll be good for those with tinted brows who want to make their brows appear fuller but in the future I’ll be sticking to pencils and powders. Brow Zings from Benefit is very good and that has never let me down so I might just stick to that from now on! I do also get on a little better with gimme brow+ as that does make my brows appear naturally full. It is great for natural makeup looks.
Mac Fix Plus
Now this is one that everyone can save their money on. I’d seen this on YouTube a lot mainly because Sister James mentions it plenty. Now, don’t get me wrong, this does make your base look less cakey but it doesn’t do a much better job than normal water. I’d suggest just filling a spray bottle with water and using that. It gives the exact same effect but at a much lower price. If you have dry skin then I’d recommend using rose water. This then adds hydration as well as ridding of the powdery look. This hack is so important to me as I need powder due to my oily skin but I don’t want it to be so obvious and visible. So many love Mac Fix + but really struggle to see why. I also don’t feel like it helps contribute to making my makeup last longer either.
Nars orgasm blush
It’s the product that comes to mind when you hear this brand and it was the one that disappointed me. Many have labelled it the most versatile blush shade or the perfect blush. Personally, I really cannot see what the big deal is. I agree that it is a beautiful shade but I know for a fact that their are near-identical shades for much lower prices. Maybe this is because I don’t see the point in splurging on a blush when I can make drugstore ones work but it just wasn’t worth the money or hype. Pigmentation also fell a little short. It does show up though you need to build upon it. Although that could be better than applying too much, it didn’t impress me. My favourite blush at the moment is one of the heart blushers from Revolution or Too Faced.
L’Oréal Lash Paradise
I brought this mascara on a whim one day. I remember a post on Instagram saying that it was an exact dupe for the better than sex mascara. Now, I love the long lash look with slight volume. I don’t mind mega volume just so long as all my lashes are separate. This mascara however, clumped your eyelashes like something else! I had to comb my lashes to try and separate them but the minute I stopped, they clung together again! Despite this, it did add perfect length but the clumping was not something I could look past. I was disappointed as it was so highly reviewed. I’m also quite glad it was only a drugstore product though so I didn’t waste as much money!
I hope this has helped! Please leave a comment about your worst beauty buy! Or let me know of a comment that is worth the hype!
Great post! I also tried out Lash Paradise because the Too Faced one is such a holy grail for me and I had heard the two compared so much. I was disappointed though because it did not hold a curl in my lashes.
Glad I’m not the only one!
I’ve always been confused by Fix Plus, because I always heard YouTubers saying “It’s not a setting spray, but it will really improve your makeup” and I was always just like ?????

Love this post! I found NARS blush anticlimatic and I figured it was just because I don’t like blush that much, glad to see someone else feels the same way. I can’t live without Fix Plus tho.
I thought the same about the blush!!
It’s so funny how products work for some people and not for other, I adore double wear! I agree though on the blush!
I think it’s really refreshing to read posts where to products aren’t amazing, saves us all wasting money on them 🙂
I agree!
