Oily skin can be an absolute pain for oily skin! You can perfect your makeup but by lunch you may be a very shiny mess! And no, it doesn’t look gorgeously dewy unfortunately. Well, that’s on me at least…
Thankfully, since I’ve been a makeup wearer for many years now, I’ve compiled a list of the best makeup for oily skin. These products stay matte and can also be made to look natural.
So, what are the best makeup products for oily skin?
Primer
I’ve mentioned this plenty of times on my blog and it is of course the Becca backlight priming filter*. It blurs out a fair few of my imperfections and adds a soft glow that I adore. I apply this all over my face and it provides the perfect base ready for foundation.
Despite my oily skin, I do like to use a dewy primer. It helps my makeup look more natural and this one doesn’t make me slick hours later.
Foundation
Only one product can really spring to mind here and it’s the product that took the beauty industry by storm. Of course, Revolution conceal and define foundation*. It’s no surprise that this became the favourite of so many, such great coverage at such a low expense!
I personally love the applicator and when a thin layer is applied with a damp beauty blender, it can look so natural. Alternatively when applied with a brush, you get the full coverage, but non-cakey, glam look.
You get such a lot of product too and the longevity of this is much better than many high-end foundations! It’s one of the best foundations I’ve found that works with my oily skin!
However, another firm favourite has been the L’Oreal 24hr matte foundation*. It’s very full coverage and very matte so it’s a go-to for nights out. Also, due to it being a drugstore product, it’s great value for money!
I actually praised this product in my best drugstore base products post!
Concealer
Not a huge fan of the foundation but love the partnering concealer- can you guess? Estée Lauder Double wear concealer*.
This is the only concealer I’ve found that covers my dark circles and doesn’t crease! It’s also perfect to wear alone if I’m not feeling foundation.
It is quite pricey but I’d say it’s definitely worth the price. I have found that’s it’s creamy and quite thick but blends seamlessly and feels weightless under my eyes which should be essential as the skin there is so sensitive. It doesn’t need the extra weight pulling it down to create bags.
Powder
Currently, I use the Primark setting powder as it adds extra coverage whilst also making me matte. For only £2, I can’t fault the product! The only negative of it however, is the lack of availability. There’s not a huge range of shades and Primark isn’t available to every country and doesn’t retail online.
Another adorable powder I do love though, is the Revolution pro powder foundation*. I love to use powder foundations as a powder as it makes your base look flawless.
I’ll admit that it can look slightly cakey, but it’s nothing that a spritz of water can’t fix. Simple spray a few spritz of water on your face after powder and it’s help it melt it all in!
These are both perfect for oily skin!
Contour
It’s never going to be anything other than Hoola*, is it? This is the cult bronze by benefit and so many love it.
Since becoming a cult favourite, it’s now available in 4 shades to suit different skin tones and is mostly used for contour.
I feel like this bronzer defines my cheekbones so well and adds a sunkissed look to my face. As well as this, it’s also very pigmented so again, a little goes a long way and it lasts for ages!
I’ve had mine for over a year and I’ve only just hit pan! If you want extremely sharp cheekbones, then you need to buy this!
Blush
Blush is my absolute favourite makeup product and the Too Faced Love Flush blush* in the shade I will always love you. It’s a beautiful coral blush and adds a gorgeous natural flush.
I’ve found that other blushers with shimmer in, can make my cheeks oily during the day and this area of my face is never usually an issue. That’s why this blush is one of my favourite makeup products – even if it’s not just for my oily skin!
Highlighter
Now this blush is a new favourite. Cookie* by Benefit is best worn for a noticeable but more natural glow.
In the past, I’ve been a huge fan of glowy, blinding highlighters but more recently, I’ve been adopting more of a natural look. I do still love to glow on special occasions but I’ve come to realise that I don’t need to look like a glazed doughnut everyday!
That being said, these makeup products don’t completely prevent all oiliness so always tone down on highlighter in the day. Your oils will amplify it!
Eyeshadow
I’ve raved about it enough now for you all to know that I adore the Huda New Nudes palette*!
It’s the perfect palette for both natural and going out and I’ve been using it so much since I received it at Christmas!
I’m a huge fan of pink shades and these dusty pinks are to die for! I’ve seen so many amazing looks created from this palette and I can’t wait to try some more out!
My favourites are definitely the glitter shades, they can provide a bold look or be used as an extra angelic touch!
I’ve actually got a review on this gorgeous huda palette because I just couldn’t keep my views on this a secret!
Brows
Luckily, my eyebrows are pretty thick so they only need a quick brush through and a little filling in. So, for this, I use Benefit’s Brow Zings*.
This is my go-to product as it has both a wax and powder so you can shape and set with the wax and fill in with the powder. Due to my thick brows, I generally use the powder and it’s lasted me ages so far!
You can adjust the intensity of this with how heavy-handed you go. As you may have guessed, I go very lightly.
The packaging contributes to its appearance in this post due to the mirror. You can take it everywhere to ensure you always have the most perfect brows!
Mascara
I never realised how much I loved Benefit makeup until writing this as my favourite mascara is from Benefit!
Bad gal bang* is definitely my holy grail! It provides intense length and volume without being clumpy which is very important for me. I hate clumpy mascara.
I love the effect of this so much that sometimes I’ll only wear mascara for the day and no other makeup! My oily skin is set free but at least my eyelashes look good- right?
Lip product
I prefer lip glosses over lipstick and the one I always reach for is the Soap and Glory Pillow Plump gloss.
I always buy the clear one and it has a slight shimmer to it which I also like and the tingly feeling is quite fun. Although my friend tried it and didn’t like it at all so it’s personal choice there! It adds the perfect natural finish to every makeup look.
Recently, I’ve also been reaching for the Fenty gloss bomb* in the shade Fu$$y. It’s absolutely gorgeous though I do appreciate it that it’s expensive for a small lip gloss.
Setting spray
This is another predictable product and it’s the Urban Decay setting spray*.
Nothing locks in my makeup as good as this and it’s at cult status for a reason. It’s price tag may be slightly higher than you’d mostly likely be willing to pay but it really does stay true to its name! It’s worth every penny’
I use the de-slick version and it’s the best to keep my makeup on and my oily skin at bay! It’s undoubted the best makeup setting spray on the market for oily skin!
Please comment below your favourite makeup products!

I just bought that primer, so I’m glad you like it! Also, I’m gonna add the concealer and mascaras you mentioned to my list, as I’m in the market for new ones!
