Now Halloween is officially over, Christmas, or at the very least Winter, has begun! This Winter, I’m so excited to celebrate Christmas in my university town before I go home for the Christmas holidays!
In this post I’m writing a Winter bucketlist which I’ll hopefully complete by the end of the year! To read my travel bucketlist, click here.
1. Go and see the Christmas lights!
I love Christmas lights! There’s nothing I love more than watching the light switch-on’s in a town. I feel like it brings the community together and it really feels more Christmassy once the town square is decorated.
In my hometown, I used to get wrapped up in my coat and scarf then my family and I would walk around the Christmas market before purchasing a hot chocolate and watching the light switch-on followed by the fireworks that our town always hired for afterwards.
I also love seeing how the houses light their houses up for Christmas! It really makes a walk more interesting when there’s pretty lights to look at along the way. My younger sisters always get so excited to see the Christmas lights and it costs nothing!
2. Go Christmas shopping
My university is only a short train journey away from a huge city that has an amazing shopping centre. I can’t wait to explore all the shops there and purchase some presents for my friends and family.
Luckily, I’ve budgeted well this first semester and I’ve saved quite a bit of money allowing me to purchase some good gifts this year and I can’t wait to see everyone’s reactions at the presents. Giving gifts is one of my favourite parts of Christmas!
I even enjoy online shopping though! There’s so many different online stores out there and it’s a great way to support many small businesses that are online!
3. Try every drink on the Starbucks Christmas menu
Starbucks drinks are absolute classics and I love the red cups that they always bring out. They have new drinks out this year and they’ve really caught my eye.
I’m really keen to try the toasted marshmallow hot chocolate- sounds very sickly but I’m a total sweet-tooth, so, for me, this is dreamy!
I also want to try the gingerbread latte because surprisingly, I’ve never tried one before! There are 3 Starbucks by my university which is fortunate for me, not quite as fortunate for my bank account!
Due to the convenience, I have tried the toffee nut latte. I did like it- it was sweet enough for me. Despite this, it definitely wasn’t my favourite and I’m not sure it’s a go-to order for me this Winter!
I always take Starbucks to go because it’s cheaper and I love having a warm drink to keep my hands toasty in the cold weather!
4. Have a Christmas movie marathon with my boyfriend
If you read my last life update then you’d know that I had met a guy that I really like but I’m now happy to say that he is now my boyfriend!
Winter is just the perfect time to cuddle in the blankets and watch Netflix. We have already began watching a few series together but nothing is as festive as Christmas movies.
Luckily we’ve both watched and like the same Christmas movies so this marathon will be good, just re-watching all the classics.
If you don’t have a significant other then you can watch movies with your family or even your dog! Christmas movies are just a sure way to cheer up during the Christmas period!
This is so many people’s favourite part of Christmas and for good reason! It’s so fun and it starts Christmas off for so many people!
I love tinsel and fairy lights and my mood is instantly lifted as soon as they go on. It’s a great activity to get your whole family involved in. You can spend more quality time with them and it keeps you busy for a few hours!
Blast those tunes, get dancing and decorate!
6. Take a walk in the snow
Again, this is not a definite as you can’t guarantee that it’ll snow. Snow is just so gorgeous and I love walking in it when it’s falling.
A negative for me however, is that I get cold too easily but I just ensure I’m wrapped up warm. To see my go-to winter coat then check out my Instagram post here.
This coat was quite a steep investment for me but I do not regret it at all as it’s the warmest and softest coat. Unfortunately, it’s not waterproof so I do have my Hollister all-weather jacket for that.
Even if you don’t get snow, a good walk is great fun and even keeps you active at Christmas which I know can be difficult!
7. Winter baking
My nan and I have a tradition of Winter baking and hopefully this year will be no exception!
We always do mince pies and I really love the quality time that I get to spend with my Nan. Our family is huge so we always go several batches of each treat which means we usually have to spend the whole night/afternoon on it and I think it’s so fun!
You can also do the classic gingerbread men that not only taste great, but fills your house with a delicious aroma!
Children also LOVE decorating baked treats so this would be the perfect activity to get them involved in!
What do you love doing/ want to do this Winter?
