Getting fit in lockdown!
I made it a pact of mine to get healthy in lockdown. It didn’t make it into my post about what I’ve been doing in quarantine because I hadn’t started it yet but I mentioned it in my morning routine. Upon the time of writing, I’ve been doing my workout for over 2 weeks now. I’m going to share my experience and the workouts I’ve been following in my mission to get fit!
What workouts have I been following?
I’ve been following Chloe Ting workout videos. Every day I’ve been doing the cardio and ab workout, then I added a leg workout occasionally when I was feeling very motivated. I don’t have a gym/yoga mat so I was using a blanket. This was fine to stop my hands hurting but it was quite slippery.
Chloe isn’t overly optimistic and she also loses balance occasionally which makes me enjoy the workouts! Despite this, her workouts are not easy in the slightest. I was slightly stupid on the first days of my “home workout scheme” and didn’t stretch so my abs hurt so bad for the first couple of days. However, by day 4, I was seeing results! I was mind blown, I did it just to get healthier and maybe see results closer to the end of quarantine but clearly they work! So many people slate at home workouts but I feel more tired after these workouts than I do after attending gym classes.
How do you stay motivated?
As mentioned in my morning routine, I wake up relatively early and this helps me as I then have more time in my day and I can fill it with workouts. I also change into workout/gym clothes. Even though I’m doing my workout at home, being in the correct attire really motivates me. It’s not the type of clothing I wear to lounge in so once I’ve changed, I’m doing that workout.
My mum has also being doing it with me which helps motivate me. If I’m not feeling motivated but she is, then I make myself do it and generally feel better after doing it. Also, my mum is hilarious so she makes it much more fun! Having her there, also makes me want to work harder and have less breaks. It’s almost competitive but fun competition rather than serious.
Have you changed your diet?
No. When I came back from uni, I was already losing weight as I stopped snacking so much. At first I was always hungry for a snack but I started to drink water when I was hungry and this helped. While being at home, I’ve also had more nutritious meals- uni food means carb central! Instead of a lot of pasta and rice, I’ve been having more meat and vegetables. So you could essentially say I have changed it but I haven’t restricted myself. If I want that cake then I’ll have it and enjoy it!
Do you do any other exercise besides the at-home workout videos?
Honestly, no! I don’t use my “one form of activity” pass to go outside because I work in a supermarket so I get out of the house enough by doing that. The garden is enough for me if I want fresh air and I help around the house with some tidying. Most of my days however are spent studying or working to improve my blog.
I do need to sort my wardrobe out soon though and I may list some things on Depop. Clearing my wardrobe will definitely take some energy up as I have lots of clothes and they’re all just shoved in there at the moment. This however, it’s just a one-time activity so I don’t think it’ll contribute hugely to my fitness levels.
What else do I need to know about working out at home?
Stay hydrated! Especially if you work out first thing in the morning. I do it before breakfast but I make sure to drink lots as I follow the work outs. You’re losing water as you sweat so you need to keep that water levels topped up. Not only does it help with working out but it’s also healthy. Since going on this health-kick, I’ve been drinking a lot more water and I actually prefer it over other drinks now such as fruit squash.
Wash your face after! You don’t want to let sweat sink into your pores after a workout! These will build up and cause you to break out which isn’t good! I always splash my face with water before working out, this just helps wake me up. I like to use my Foreo to help clean my post-workout skin. This helps deeply clear out my pores so my face is completely clean. Also, if you are planning to wear makeup and you workout in the morning- this tip is especially helpful for you! Don’t pile makeup on top of a dirty face! Not only will it not look as good, but it’s increasing the chance of more breakouts. As your buffing foundation into your face, you’ll be buffing that sweat in too! Not good for your skin at all!
Have you been doing any at-home workouts during lockdown?
I might have to check out Choles videos following your recommendation, I have been doing some home workouts when I was working from home but I have had 2 weeks off work and without the routine I have slipped massively and I am paying for it.
Back to work on Monday so a new routine is needed.
Thank you for sharing x
They’re hard but they work! Thanks for reading! Xx
I always work out at home anyway so not much has changed for me! I use Holly Dolke for fitness, HIIT and toning and always use Yoga With Adriene too 🙂
I’ve heard good things about yoga with Adrienne! May have to try her out next as I love stretching at the end of a workout! Xx
I’ve been walking so much more than usual whilst in Quarantine and it’s been so helpful! x
So many people have started a health kick in lockdown which has helped so many get through this! Xx
I have been wanting to workout at home in the mornings but I really lack two things, 1) motivation and 2) not an early riser. I wish that I could do better but I am really struggling at the moment finding workouts to do at home. I need something really beginner. Congrats on being so motivated and being able to do this. It takes a lot of patience, motivation, and commitment to be able to do it, something to be proud of!

Thank you so much! Maybe start with yoga videos before you move on to cardio? Xx
I’m really tempted to try the Chloe Ting workouts! I’ve been following yoga workouts on YouTube which are more gentle, and I’ve also been using my ‘one exercise a day’ pass by going for walks. That combination has been working well for me but I also dream of getting abs so I might need something more intense! x
It definitely hurts but it works! Xx
My sister and I set up a schedule to work out 2-3 times every week. We either use Pinterest to get work out ideas or follow a workout plan from the Adidas app. It helps a lot to stay fit and healthy even amidst the lockdown.
That’s good! My mum actually joins in with me! Xx
I’ve heard lots of good things about chloes workout videos, Thankyou for reminding me to check them out😂🤍
She’s amazing! It’s hard but it works! Xx
Good luck on your fit journey!!! I just started working out for real three days ago. I was doing some mild pilates, but now I started ballet and jump rope online and it is kicking my bum. Working out is great! I love it!
I just refuse to sit on a couch to wait for this to be over. Quarantine should bring change, and that includes my health.
Thanks and I totally agree! Good luck on your journey too! Xx
I really should dress for my workouts I’m sure it will get me in the right mindset.
Definitely! I’ve found it really helps! Xx
I’ve just been using a workout app because I think I need to start a bit slower as I have more weight to loose before I jump into something as intense as Chloe Ting…although I do love her videos occasionally – they’re so motivational <3
She has some great no-jumping beginners workouts! Xx
It’s so nice to see that you’ve been so productive during your lockdown! I’ve heard so many amazing things about the Chloe Ting workout, and it’s something I’ve been looking into – currently doing the Shreddy challenge so will hold out for a little!
But also – washing your face after a workout!! OH MY GOD, it makes all the difference. I break out too easily if I don’t wash my face straight after!
Definitely! My face feels disgusting if I don’t wash it! Xx
Thank you. This no gym approach makes it so much harder to make excuses and workout videos are easy to follow thank you!
