I haven’t done a makeup post in ages in fact my last one was my no-foundation makeup routine which was published last year! I have the oiliest skin ever so matte is my go-to base finish. Thankfully, I’ve discovered plenty of affordable products that work amazingly with my oily skin! These are the products I’m going to share with you today. These are my favourite drugstore printers, foundations, concealers and powder!
Primers
1. NYX Shine Killer* | £11.00
A recent favourite primer of mine! It has a silicon consistency and these are the perfect consistency for mattifying primers!
2. Revolution conceal and fix*| £8.00
I will never not love revolution as a brand! Such high quality products for a low price tag. This is no exception to the brand. It goes especially well with the conceal and definitely foundation mentioned in my favourite makeup products post.
3. L’Oréal infallible mattifying base* | £8.99
This was my first ever primer and I was astounded at how much of a difference it made! I was matte for so much longer than I otherwise would have been. It also blurs so it’s great for those who want a blurring effect without foundation! With foundation, you have the most perfect matte base!
4. Soap and Glory one heck of a blot | £11.00
Despite feeling slightly oily upon application, it actually works extremely well. Packaging also made this primer win a place in my heart. I’m a sucker for girly packaging and this is the prettiest pink tube! Soap and Glory makeup doesn’t impress me as much as other drugstore brands but this is a stand-alone steal!
5. Maybelline baby skin* | £7.99
Doesn’t this take you back to the days of baby lips? My collection was pretty hefty and I added this primer to my stash too! You do get a bit less in this one but it is a little cheaper than some of the other options. There was mixed reviews at first but I loved it! It made my skin soft and matte, what more could you want from it? As for how the base looks? It looks smooth on me so I do really like it!
Foundations
1. Wet n Wild photofocus* | £5.99
Another recent favourite of mine. It has high coverage and a matte finish. I still set with powder and it stays matte all day! It also does not budge! It’s quickly climbing the ladder of my favourite foundations!
2. L’Oréal infallible 24 hour matte | £9.99
The texture is what makes this a favourite! It’s velvety and blends so smoothly. My skin has never looked so flawless than when wearing this foundation and it stays matte for a fair while too! I’m not a fan of the tube as it means product goes to waste but the performance of this product is amazing!
3. Revolution conceal and define* | £9.99
As I said, this is on holy grail products post. It’s a foundation you can wear every day and it lasts well. I love the concealer-like applicator too, it means you can really control the amount you’re applying.
4. Rimmel match perfection* | £8.99
This isn’t advertised at matte and it’s not matte unless you set it with a good powder but the finish of this foundation is so gorgeous. It’s a medium coverage and really blurs imperfections. It’s a great foundation you can probably get away with for wearing at school. This is one of the first foundations I bought and I’ve repurchased it many times.
5. No7 beautifully matte | £15.00
Probably the most priciest of this whole post but it’s worth every penny. I had a sample of this and I genuinely loved it but never got round to purchasing the whole thing. This is because I went on a whim and splurged on the Fenty Pro Filtr which I have a review on. Undoubtedly this is a foundation I will pay for the full version of very soon.
Powders
1. Primark perfect colour | £2.00
For such a small price tag, this powder really delivers! My skin has never been so smooth and matte after using this! Next time I get to Primark, I’ll definitely be stocking up on this powder. It’s so, so amazing!
2. Rimmel stay matte* | £3.99
This was a staple back in its day! Tanya Burr and Zoella swore by it so, naturally, I did too! It can make your makeup look powdery but it’s nothing a spritz of water can’t fix. For such a low price tag too, you can’t complain!
3. Rimmel match perfection* | £8.49
Rimmel really win with powders. This is a little more expensive but I think it’s worth it. I stay matte longer with loose powder and this is finely milled as to not look powdery. This powder is great at blurring everything out and finishing the base!
4. Maybelline fit me powder* | £5.99
I’m not a fan of the foundation but this powder is so good! This actually does keep me matte and I love the sleek packaging of this! Not only does it make you matte, but it also blurs your pores and gives you an airbrushed appearance! It’s rare you can get this finish for such a small price.
5. Revolution Pro powder foundation | £5.00
This is my favourite drugstore powder and possibly my favourite drugstore base product. You may be thinking but it’s a foundation! You’d be correct but personally, I don’t like powder foundation. As a powder, it’s perfect and adds extra coverage so you don’t have to apply extra layers of foundation. They also last ages too! If you’re going to buy any product from this post, make it this one.
The purpose of this post was to show that you can get amazing products from the drugstore that work as well as higher end products.
All of these products have worked well for me whether it be in the past or currently. I hope at least one of these products can help you achieve the perfectly matte base you’re striving for!
What’s your favourite matte drugstore base product?
Awesome post lovely! I always have to go for a matte finish with my base because my skin is so oily. It’s always such a pain trying to find products that work with my very fussy skin type aha.
Love Shannon x

Thank you so much for sharing this has given me some ideas for new products to try! I’m currently using the Revolution Conceal & Define Foundation and I love it! I’m in the market for a new primer too so I think I’ll be giving their one a try – it’s one of my favourite brands and I love the price point! x
It’s amazing! The nyx one is definitely my personal preference for primers but they all work well! Xx
I always enjoy reading make up tips! As someone with combination skin, I’m always on the lookout for makeup products that won’t have my face looking all shiny when what I want is to look fresh and dewy. L’Oreal and Maybelline are both great. Affordable too!
That’s so true! I love drugstore brands! Xx
I love the Rimmel Stay Matte powder, it’s such a classic. I have been on the hunt for a new powder, so I’ll have to look into the others. I don’t have oily skin, so I’ll be sure to avoid those primers haha xx

Yay! Glad you enjoyed! Xx
I love drugstore products, too! NYX is one of my favorite brands – their BB cream & lipsticks are my absolute fave. I also love Wet n Wild’s photofocus foundation. It’s sooo good! I’ll have to check out some of the other products on here that I’ve never tried before. Thanks for sharing, girl.
Much love always,
GABBY
Thanks for reading, I haven’t seen the NYX bb cream but I love it for natural makeup so I’ll have to see xx
This is such a handy list. I love a good Superdrug shop haha.

Me too! Xx
I have really dry skin but I actually really like the loreal primer because it’s blurring I find it smoothing on my dry textured areas. Works brilliantly as long as I have a hydrating foundation on. These are great suggestions for anyone with oily skin on a budget x
Sophie
Thank you and yeah, not ideal for dry skin but good idea on using a hydrating foundation over it! Xx
I love the maybelline baby skin and this post just reminded me that I need to pick up some more so thanks for that! I also still use Rimmel Stay Matte more out of habit than anything else
They’re such old classics! Xx
I have such oily skin too so this is list is perfect! I used the L’Oréal infallible primer too and absolutely love it! Same with the maybelline fit me powder. Thanks for sharing 🥰
Glad it can help! Xx
Love the post!! I used to love the N°7 foundation and the revolution primer when my skin was oily!!
They’re amazing together! Xx
Lovely post!! Thank you so much for this because I’m always the one who’s confused for purchasing beauty products. It was super helpful!
I’m glad it helps! It can definitely be confusing with so many options! Xx
This is a great post! I love revolution make up! Also I already use some of these products and love them for my skin xx
Me too and they’re all so good! Xx
Love this post! I get pretty much all of my make up and hair stuff from normal drug stores and think they’re fab. I’m a big fan of No7! Thanks for sharing the other brands too I’ll have to check them out ☺️
Me too, drugstore products are great! Xx
This is a great post! I use the majority of these products and really get along with them. I used to use the baby skin primer everyday and forgot about until just now so thank you!
Thanks and baby skin was my holy grail! Xx
I rarely wear makeup just because of how oily my skin is. It seems like we’ve all been conditioned to think that if we have less than ideal skin, we need to buy high end and very overpriced makeup to compensate for the “flaws” in our skin. My favorite part about this article is how you debunk that myth and show everyone that simply isn’t true. I’m saving this post to try out some of these products. It may be that I start wearing makeup more often with the right products for my skin!
Definitely! These work so well on my oily skin! Thanks for reading! Xx
Thank you for your recommendation of mattifying products.. I use baby skin always have. But I might try something else when I get home. I can’t wait to get back to UK then I can start wearing make up again. The make-up I have with me is not amazing in 29 degrees LOL xx GREAT post xx
I can imagine! The UK is good for wearing makeup as you won’t sweat it off! Xx
Int he last few years my skin has changed from dry to oily so this is so helpful for me! It’s like having to completely change everything! Thanks Kyra – great post x
I can imagine that’s annoying! These products really help, thanks for reading! Xx
I have combination skin and I use L’Oréal Primer, I love the primer so much, it blends so well and non-greasy. I love revolution skincare also because of its affordability. Thanks for sharing
Revolution has quickly become one of my favourite brands! Xx
This reminded me that I once had a sample of the baby pore minimiser and I need to get it again! There’s some great products that I need to have a look at here!
Definitely recommend them all! Xx
I loved this post! As someone who has struggled with oily skin for years, this post is sooo helpful!! Thanks so much for sharing, I will definitely be trying the NYC primer and I’ve been wanting to try the conceal and define foundation for a while now, so maybe it’s time! Xx
Definitely try it, you won’t regret it! Xx
By any chance do you know what’s good for male combination skin?
There are many face masks that can help! Clay masks are good for oily t-zones and maybe an overnight mask to help with the dryness? Xx
Thanks so much for sharing this! I have combo skin but it’s on the oily side and I’m always on the hunt for matte products 🙂

Thanks for reading! Hope they help! Xx
I relate so bad with having an oily face and I actually use most of the products you’ve mentioned. However, ever since I moved to a more hot and humid country I’ve completely stopped putting anything on my face except for eyeliner. Thank you very much for these though, hope to use make up again soon☺️
I hope so too! Xx
I struggle a lot with oily skin and some of these products really help! Thank you for sharing :))

Thanks for reading! Glad they help you! Xx
Great reviews! I can definitely vouch for No. 7 foundation! It’s absolutely worth the price. Honestly, i like it way better than most high-end foundations i have tried. And I usually get a ridiculous number of compliments whenever i wear it.
Thank you and it is so good! My friend recommended it to me! Xx
