Facials are known to be very beneficial to your skin, but they can be very expensive! So why not make a one-time investment to give yourself a facial, at home?
PMD kindly gifted me their personal microderm* device to try out. I’ve been using it for a few weeks now and I thought I’d share my thoughts and opinions.
What is microderm?
Microderm, short for microdermabrasion, is a non-invasive skincare treatment. It involves an abrasive applicator that buffs away the outer layer of your skin.
This is to rejuvenate the skin but also helps with skin concerns such as:
- Acne and scarring
- Dull skin
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Enlarged pores and blackheads
- Uneven skin tone and texture
Microderming is suitable for all skin types and when done correctly, is a safe procedure.
What is the PMD Personal Microderm?
The PMD microderm* is a skincare device that retails at £145. It comes in 7 different colours to make it more personal to yourself. Each device also comes with 6 discs (3 for the face, 3 for the body), and 2 caps. One cap is for your face, the other is for your body. It also comes with a white disc which is very gentle to allow you to practice getting used to the device.
Not only does this device use the applicator, but it also uses suction to decongest pores and improves circulation. It also triggers healing and boosts the production of collagen to improve skin’s elasticity and promote anti-ageing.
Although the PMD personal microderm* includes suction in its function, it is not a blackhead remover.
How do you use the PMD Personal Microderm?
First, you need to decide on the disc to use. The white one is recommended for beginners and those with extremely sensitive skin. Also for your first time, test it on your hand and arm and check for any pain and/or bruising.
When you turn it in, the suction will begin and it only has one intensity setting so nothing needs to be changed or adjusted.
Make sure your skin is dry and clean before using the PMD Microderm. Using a clean hand, pull your skin taut and glide the Microderm across your skin. You don’t need to apply pressure as the suction does the work for you.
Don’t hover over one particular area of skin and ensure that you don’t go over the same area more than once.
Once finished, clean the cap and apply a hydrating moisturiser. You skin will also benefit from an SPF as your fresh layer of skin will be extremely sensitive to the sun. My favourite SPF is the SPF with antioxidants from the Ordinary.
How well does the PMD Personal Microderm work?
After the very first time I used it, my skin was extremely soft. It was a little red but this subsided pretty quickly. I did have a bit of dead skin on my face after using so make sure you wash that off!
I also noticed after the first time that my skin purged slightly. Skin purging is where the skin breaks out after using a product at first because the product is bringing all the dirt to the surface of the skin. Skin purging should only last around 1-2 weeks before it clears.
Because of the Microderm being an exfoliation treatment, I have noticed my skin has more of a glow to it. Also like the PMD Clean, it really does help my serums penetrate the skin deeper. I reviewed the PMD Clean on my blog earlier this year and compared it to the Foreo Luna Mini 2.
Up to the time of writing, I’ve been using the PMD Personal Microderm for a few weeks now and my skin has never looked better! It is a lot smoother, clear, glowing and my skin tone is much more even.
What else do I need to know about the PMD Personal Microderm?
If bruising does occur from the PMD microderm, if will wear off in a few days. Make sure you apply a soothing toner and moisturiser following the treatment. The only way this should occur however, is if you stay on one part of the skin for too long. This shouldn’t be an issue as the microderm should be constantly gliding across your skin.
The source of power is a electricity. It comes with the cord and an adapted plug for the UK, Europe and the US. This is really good as it means that you can take the PMD Microderm travelling with you. You can have clear and glowing skin wherever you go!
You should change your disc every 3-4 uses as the roughness of the aluminium oxide crystals get blunt. When first using, you should increase the disc intensity of each use until you find your perfect disc. Once you’ve used all the discs included, you can purchase more from the PMD website or sign up to a subscription. This option will save you 15%!
The PMD Personal Microderm* also comes with a one-year warranty. With mine, ther was a card in the box. I bad to fill it in then send it to PMD and they’d register my device on the site. This means if your PMD Microderm becomes faulty at any time in the first year, you can get a replacement for free!
This, in my eyes, makes it a worthy investment. It clearly shows they have good customer service and if it’s faulty then they’ll willingly give you a new one as they want you to genuinely love the product.
What’s your final opinions on the PMD Microderm?
As I’ve said before, the Microderm device has given me clear, glowing skin that absorbs my skincare much better.
Not only is it effective, but it’s also extremely fun to incorporate into my skincare routine 1-2 times a week. It’s not time-consuming or painful and applying the moisturiser is so soothing after!
My preferred choice of Microderm disc is the green one which is a moderate intensity. I liked that they gave you a selection of discs to try so you can find the right intensity for your skin.
Overall, I’ve had a very positive experience with the PMD Personal Microderm and would highly recommend it to anyone, especially as it’s suitable for all skin types!
