Oily skin is a nightmare, there’s no doubt about that. It’s even more of a nightmare when it comes to choosing a moisturizer. You want a moisturizer that’ll hydrate your oily skin but not leave you looking like a glazed donut only hours later!
I’ve struggled with oily skin for so long so I’ve come across my fair share of moisturizers. However, I now think I’ve found my match. Trust me when I say it’s the best moisturizer if you have oily skin!
So, let’s dive right in so I can share this miracle cream!
What moisturizer is the best for oily skin?
So obviously, you want this secret cream that I haven’t yet revealed! Well, that cream, is Celestial by Lush!
It’s a very simple moisturiser composed of only 11 ingredients! Lush prides itself on using fresh products and this uses 6 fresh ingredients and 5 safe synthetics.
It’s main component is vanilla water. Now, if you’re read about my favourite perfumes, you’ll know that I love vanilla scented products. This smells exactly like vanilla yoghurt!
Now, the reason as to why it’s amazing for oily skin is because of how lightweight it is. It’s very lightweight and absorbs into the skin very easily.
But guess what… it’s not only good for oily skin! It’s also good for sensitive skin and some have claimed it’s even cured their eczema! It’s not just the best moisturiser for oily skin- it’s a miracle cream for all skin types!
First impressions
As soon as I got this moisturizer, I opened it to smell it. Like I mentioned before, I love vanilla scents so I had to smell it!
It’s a very faint scent but it does smell like vanilla yoghurt. Unlike many lush skincare products (or products in general), this doesn’t contain fragrance. That’s why the smell is so faint, it’s only coming from the vanilla water. The lack of fragrance is probably also why it’s a good match for sensitive skin.
Upon my first use, I was surprised at the consistency. It’s a little like a balm. To be honest, I thought it was going to clog my pores because it’s quite rich.
When rubbing in though, it melted into my skin instantly like a dream! It absorbs so quickly and doesn’t make your face greasy. If you have oily skin, you know that this can be a very very oily nightmare!
So, upon first impressions, I was really impressed.
How was your skin in the morning?
Because it’s such a rich moisturizer, I use it at night. For day time, I use a lighter moisturizer that contains SPF.
When I awoke the next morning, I was so surprised at the results. My breakout hadn’t gone, but it had faded quite a bit, and my skin was more plump.
After using it for several days, my breakout had cleared itself up and my skin was looking more glowy. This is a difficult accomplishment if you have oily skin. Usually, when something promises you glowy skin, it makes oily skin extremely slick and greasy. Now, you have this moisturizer to thank for your perfect skin!
What are the downsides?
It is a little bit pricey, it’s £18 for 45g. I could justify paying this much as for my oily skin, a little goes a long way.
To say it has such a simple ingredients list, I’m not sure why it does cost this much. Personally, I would purchase again at this price, but it all depends on personal opinion. There are definitely more expensive options out there but there are also cheaper ones too.
It’s not the best to wear under makeup because it’s quite rich. This is why I only use it at night. It may work under makeup for dry skin types but if you have oily skin, I recommend you get a lightweight moisturizer for makeup days.
Another note for my oily skin girls is that if you use too much, it may break you out. There have been some reviews on the lush website with these claims. Luckily for me, it’s not been an issue as I’m usually very hesitant when applying moisturizer. I never apply lots, so don’t go in with a heavy hand!
Final thoughts
This is a very well rounded moisturiser that suits all skin types.
It’s important to use in moderation depending on your skin type, with oily skin needing a lot less than someone with dry skin.
For me, I would definitely repurchase. It’s cleared my breakouts, made my skin glowy and keeps my skin well cared for throughout the night.
Due to it being fragrance-free, it’s good for sensitive skin and has a simple ingredients list meaning there’s not as many components that can harm/irritate the skin.
Like almost all lush products (if not all), it’s vegan. Lush don’t keep it a secret that they’re against animal testing. They also boast about using natural products in all of their products. So, all you vegans with oily skin, look no further for your new best moisturizer!
So, that’s all for this review! What’s your favourite moisturiser and why? Let me know in the comments below!
I’ve never looked to lush for moisturisers but I might have to now. I suffer for really oily skin in the summer so maybe I should try this moisturiser next year. Thanks for the review x

100% recommend! Xx
After reading this, althou I have a “beauty blog” type instagram acct currently, and I live beauty.. I dont think I have a favorite moisturizer!!! I do really like The Ordinarys (which is a given as we all seem to love their brand in general) I was actually raised to use cheap old vaseline on my dry patches which are only on a side of my nose, and it ALWAYS WORKS! lol but Ofcourse I use moisturizer daily. And now, I think this blog has put me out on a mission!! 💖
I love this moisturiser but it may not work for others! Take time to try different ones to see what suits your skin xx
