Self help books are essentially books that will give you advice in order to improve yourself and your life.
They generally help transform your mindset and several tie in the law of attraction in order to help your manifest the life of your dreams.
In this post, I’ll be sharing my favourite self help books that have really changed my mindset and outlook on life.
I’d say they’re especially helpful for women, but I definitely think that anyone can read and benefit from these books since they’re so amazing!
So, let’s jump into my favourite self help books!
Good Vibes, Good Life by Vex King*
This was the first self help book I read and as I was reading it, I could sense my mood lifting instantly.
Everything in this book just makes sense and it’s so nice to read about someone else’s successes and how they did it.
Vex King had a pretty bad earlier life but by changing his mindset and outlook on things, he changed his entire life.
This is such a good self help book as it’s so easy to read and really gets into your mind without realising.
After reading this book, I was so positive for weeks and this was during lockdown when I was feeling down before as we all were.
Obviously, we all get down days, but this book teaches you how to get out of them and how to see the positives in them.
Whenever I’m having a bad day, I’ll read a chapter of this book or skim through the quotes and I’ll instantly feel uplifted. That’s how you know it’s a good self help book!
Healing is the New High by Vex King*
After reading me rave about his first self help book above, it should be no surprise that Vex King’s new book is second on this list!
This book follows on perfectly from Good Vibes, Good Life as this books tells you exactly how to get those “good vibes”.
Vex refers to this is “raising your vibrations” and this is an essential for the Law of Attraction. If you exert good vibrations out then in turn, you should attract positivity your way.
Even if you don’t believe in the law of attraction, I still think this is a valuable book to read as it provides self help by sharing activities that allow you let go of past hurt and self doubt.
I haven’t finished this book yet but I’ve got a fair way through since I got it and it’s a struggle to put it down. Everything makes so much sense and the activities really do work.
If you’re in need of just letting go and want to be more positive, you need this self help book immediately.
The Secret by Rhonda Byrne*
Unlike those other two books, this one is focused solely on the law of attraction.
Before I read this book, I had no idea what it was but after, all I wanted to do was learn about manifestation and how to do it.
This self help book is definitely for those who have limited knowledge on the topic and it really embeds the ideas into you by repeating the most important parts and explaining everything well.
Some of the ideas are very extreme in this book and some I don’t agree with, but, on the whole, it’s easy to understand and agreeable.
Some people dislike the way that the Law of Attraction is presented in this book but it is the first one that was published on this topic so take that as you will.
If you’re interested in the law of attraction and want to learn the basics and a little more, then this self-help book is for you.
The magic by Rhonda Byrne*
This one is a little more enjoyable than the above one and it’s a self help book that would benefit everyone.
The Magic sets you a task everyday in order for you to express more gratitude. The basis of this book is to use gratitude to manifest quicker but I think anyone could benefit from being more grateful.
I loved doing these activities and I still do some of them every day. It really transforms your life and makes you realise how amazing your life is.
Despite being a self-help book, there are times you feel a bit silly doing some tasks but you feel great after doing them and once you’ve finished the book, it can be one you don’t continue after.
Personally, I’d recommend continuing one or two of the tasks after completing the book so you always incorporate gratitude into your day-to-day life.
If there’s one book I’d recommend that truly defines self-help, it’s this. Gratitude is such an important self-help technique that always goes missed and under appreciated.
Working Hard or Hardly Working by Grace Beverley*
This self help book is different to the others as it’s less about manifestation and more about time management.
Despite this, it’s still incredibly useful due to the fact that it’s written by Grace Beverley who started a business while studying at Oxford University, as well as now owning 3 very successful businesses! If anyone knows how to manage their time, it’s this girl!
Grace has said herself that this self help book is for both men and women and can benefit anyone who needs to manage their time better.
I frequently end up burning out when doing uni work as one break from studying usually lasts for a few days and then I stress when trying to catch up.
This book really grasps what modern day life is about and helps you to manage your time effectively while also teaching you how to work more productively to free up extra time.
It may not seem like such a self-help book but it’s improving you in an academic way and more free time allows more self care which I always say is absolutely essential!
The Insecure Girl’s Handbook by Olivia Purvis*
This is a self help book that I picked up when unsurprisingly, I was feeling insecure and unsure in myself.
Not only did the pink book cover attract my attention but so did the very high reviews and after reading it, it wasn’t hard to see why.
This book just gets you. It knows how your feeling and what you’re feeling and just talks them out to help you stop fretting about that certain problem.
The writing style was something I also appreciated throughout this book.
I’d say it had “agony aunt” style sections and the problems it answered were just so relatable and the advice was very helpful.
My favourite part of this book was this particular quote:
“The idea of someone “excelling” or “getting ahead” is only valid if life is a race”.
It’s so in touch with today’s world where we see people launching successful businesses and buying their own houses at younger ages than you. It makes you feel worse about yourself because you haven’t found your dream job or house yet. But that’s okay, you’ll get there at your own pace and you’ll be glad that you got there in your own way.
Insecurities engulf us and that’s why this self help book is a perfect read!
You can also read my blog post on how influencers acknowledged, embraced and overcome their insecurities.
And that is it for my self help book recommendations! What are yours?
I love the vex king, high vibes book and need to get his second one. They are great for referring back when needed. I’ve heard mixed reviews about the secret but I’ll look at getting it. Thanks for sharing x
I have never read self-help books, but they seem to be helpful to so many people that I should start! I’m sure it’d give me lots of insight and motivation. The Insecure Girl’s Handbook would be high on my list!
